Hmm, I'd probably play some video games. In fact, we got an XBOX 360 in the office just waiting to be hooked up. We're all just too busy right now to consider it. Maybe I'll slack off once we push out our next set of features.
]]>Well, I was able to make it for my traditional tour of Macworld today. Noah and I met up and grabbed a quick lunch at the Metreon (Who would think that Buckhorn has really good veggie options). On the way out, we ended up holding the door open for Jason Snell, chief editor of Macworld magazine. So that was a befitting way to start into Macworld Expo tour.
This week at work has been pretty busy so I wasn't sure I'd make it to Macworld this year. But honestly with the lack of any pure Mac products that I can get my hands on relatively soon, I didn't really care that much. I was bummed a little that I couldn't find the Panic booth this year even though I know Cabel Sasser is in town. The Apple mega-booth was pretty low key aside from some minor interest in the Apple TV and the not-so-surprising heightened interest in the iPhone. There was always about a 4-5 person deep perimeter around the thing so I didn't even bother getting too close.
I did see John Nack at the Adobe booth. I was going to say hello (so he could put a face to an email address) but he seemed to have a captive audience he was working with. Both Noah and I agreed of all the booth setups, Belkin had the best. I've always admired their products but this year the booth design and products were really top notch.
Through the years since the iPod really fell into favor, Macworld has sadly become iPodworld. I really think they should just go ahead and make an iPodworld (or just iWorld?) so that we can have our Macworld back, but as Noah pointed out all the friggin' plastic skin stuff-you-don't-need for your iPod sellers would still show up at Macworld.
So do I think the iPhone is cool? Of course I do! It's a UI designer's wet dream. Watching the keynote it really sunk in. This is the stuff (UI stuff that is) of Star Trek: Next Generation and Minority Report. But just as always this is what makes Apple, Apple. Others consider these shows and movies just science fiction intended merely to entertain. Apple questions why the hell we don't have that now. And while I probably think just about anything Apple does is cool, I have to say this is by far one of the most innovative, inspiring products they've ever conceived. Thank you Apple for truly bringing us the future today. Well, maybe not today but in about five or six months.
